What are everyone’s thoughts on the 1k x 5 with 400m recovery jog as a 5k indicator workout? Does anyone thing averaging the 5 interval times is a good indicator of pace for a 5k?

Closer to 3k for me. If run @ 5k this isn’t particularly taxing in my experience.
Did this workout about 15 days before a target 5k and ended up averaging about 6-7s per rep faster than the 5k TT.
As a normal workout, yea it can be close to 5k pace, but if you’re running it hard then it’s closer to 3k pace
A harder effort 5k pace workout I did was 3x(1600-1000) with 3 min rest overall

Think this is spot on but prolly wouldn't advocate for 5 x 1k @ 3k pace. Every workout has its purpose. 5 x 1k @ 5k off of 400 jogs should feel somewhat comfortable. If you're straining, 5k pace is likely a little slower. 6 x 1k @ 5k off of 200 jogs should work out to something pretty close for a predictor.

200 recovery. 3x1 mile w 200 recovery probably a better indicator
