Congrats Drew on your new indoor PB
Congrats Drew on your new indoor PB
LOL!!!
3 seconds behind the next closest american... and lost to a college kid that doesnt go to oregon... really shows how much he is in over his head and how out of reach the rest of the field was....
He just looked awful the whole time
I’m waiting for the 5 paragraph essay by LateRunnerPhil about how this was exactly the result Tinman wanted.

I like the fact that he got into a good position early on but when the rabbit dropped out and Wightman picked up the pace all you could see was runners going past Drew. And he looked tired early on.
Hobbs Kessler >
Hunter close last 300 in 46.
And again I say, if hunter can’t develop some closeing speed he will never be anybody.
The (often deservedly) maligned NCAA system seems to be recently doing a much better job than the pros with their pro coaching.
And that is not to say this is a coaching problem, could be he is not peaking now on purpose or he is otherwise for whatever reason not performing. Not knocking timnan here I'm not privvy to his plan or expectations.

That's really not "closing speed". He lacks strength. He should not get slower off of 3:40 pace.

He just wasn't good enough to go pro out of high school. Why go pro when you're only running 3:57 for the mile? If Drew ran in college he would have had some very good competition. He would probably have won a few NCAA titles, but he certainly would not have dominated. College really is a good intermediate level of competition. If you're not making world teams out of high school, why go pro? Adidas was irresponsible for throwing all that money at him.

Hahahaha! You know it’s coming.
Hobbs was less than a second behind Willis six days ago, looking like he wasn’t even winded... and obviously with better form.
Hobbs > Drew from this point forward?
I put it in another thread, but remember the guy claiming that hunter would have challenged Marc Scott (1:53 last 800) in the 3k last week in Phoenix? This is a dose of reality.

Imagine being the guy that said that. Haha
Could he make the Ole Miss DMR?

Seems like even the CEO could give him a run for his money at this point...
I get frustrated, as a fan, when American talent like his goes to waste. He should have won that race. The kid ran a 3:57 mile in highschool for crying out loud. How is he SLOWER now than in HS? If you're injured, why are you racing? If you're not 100%, why race in a nationally televised race and tarnish your brand?

Ron Warhurst is just a phone call away.

Athens guy just ran a lifetime PB. Celebrate it. People don’t run PBs every time out. Just because his PB is slower than you would like it to be does not change the fact that he just ran faster than he ever did before for an indoor 1500m.

If someone ran a 3:29 1500m, won Olympic gold, then next indoor season got into an indoor mile championship and ran a 4:01, finishing DFL, in a race that was won in 3:53 (but they PRed from their high school PB of 4:02) it would be pretty dumb to say "Hey! They ran a lifetime PB! Celebrate it, just because they didn't run as fast as you would like doesn't change the fact they just ran faster than ever before in an indoor mile".
Technically, you didn't say anything wrong, but the expectation for a pro runner who ran a 3:57 in high school isn't that they should be running a 3:58 equivalent 5 years later in a race where multiple records were set.
I'm a fan of TME and I've defended Hunter and his team before, but not holding them to a higher standard only does a disservice to them. This really is a bad result from him, I'm hoping there's some kind of explanation in the video they do about this, but honestly I'm beginning to think maybe he needs to switch coaches. I've defended Tinman plenty of times before, but at this point, something just isn't clicking.
