my friend is one of the top runners in the nation for his age, and he says he does not want to go to college. He plans to run highschool and try and turn pro right after. What do you think about that? Monetarily, risk of not being able to perform as expected, blow out, no potential future after running? sounds like all of your eggs in one basket. It's irrelevant that he wants to go pro unless he can secure a pro contract. Until then, tell him to shut up and go to college. There's plenty of time after college to run anyways. May as well get a degree. Running is not a lucrative sport unless you're winning Olympic medals.

Get a contract that pays for college. It is the best way to go.
Is he going to be paid as a PRO, or will he be a “pro.” Talk is cheap.
I suspect there are dozens of people in the last 25 years who have not gone to college and got a podium finish at the Olympics or WC. Not a big deal.
If he wants to do it, own it. College can wait.
Many colleges cost about $170K. He should factor that in as income if he can get it covered. Another option: Do Army ROTC, get PAID to go to school, and go run in Colorado Springs as a pro after graduation - with a great team.
Sure, if your friend can run around 2:20 for a marathon on a monthly basis.
When someone mentions they wanna go pro in running I always think of guys like Elly Rono or the dozens of US guys in the 80s battling on the roads.
Get good enough to win or place in lots of races.

He should be a pro Ultrarunner. Those guys always have free bikes , travel the world, and somehow they all afford to be building custom homes . How do they do it? That Camille chick is weird but oddly rich.

Troll post for sure, but I think the Southeast is still the place to roll in some couple thousand dollar pay days at random road races. Usually marathons.
