That article is interesting and made me reminisce. When I moved up to the Northeast from Texas for college, I didn't think it was all that much different except for a few things.
1) I thought people were way less friendly on runs (Although looking back on it now I'm wondering if part of this is because you see more people on a run in the Northeast as the population density is higher).
2)I couldn't believe it could get dark at4:30 in the winter.
3) I couldn't believe it could rain and be cloudy for days on end. In Texas, it might be totally sunny at noon. Then rain 2 inches in the afternoon and then be sunny again before bedtime.
