Is Hobbs Kessler the most talented high school miler ever?

I think Justyn Knight broke 4 as a senior and he started running as a sophomore. Could be wrong about that tho

No. Probably some East African kid. Just a guess.

He trains with Nick Willis. Anyone could break 4 if they trained with Nick Willis.

Ryun ran 3:39.0 for 1500m about 20 months after starting high school training.

Agreed that his mechanics look a cut above our usual best. I’ll often look up a video of a hyped young HS or college runner and you can just tell by looking at the way they move they’ll never be a world elite. It’s extremely rare for US or euro runners to be beautiful movers like the east african best.

However, two young stars who DID have great mechanics, and similar compact, wiry builds perfect for running were German Fernandez and Michael Slagowski, who both flamed out. It’s a crap shoot. But boy howdy this kid moves beautifully.

5 months ago Harrison was the future of american 1500m. It is way too early to rush to judgement on these kids. Maybe his future is being a 12:50 5k guy instead of being a 3:32 1500m guy. Or he is a 1:42 800m guy. And lets never forget while 3:57 is fast, the world class level is like 10s faster. Thats is still a lot of improvement.

If anyone here hasn't rock climbed, see if there's a climbing gym near you, it's a ton of fun to go and if you're in decent shape you can do a good bit right off the bat.

As for the question posed, I think it's between him or Ryun, but we will probably have to see if he can run any faster during the spring. If he pulls off a 3:55 or lower, then I think he's probably the most talented since I hear he didn't start serious training until his sophomore year.

I'm really excited to see if he can develop well given that NAU has done a great job developing kids, and he doesn't seem like the Fernandez type to run himself into the ground against his coach's wishes.

Jakob is not. He already had about 25 years of training and living in hyperbaric underwater rocket launchers by the time he was 20. Justyn and Hobbs popped up after a life of sleeping on their couches and started dropping 4:00 minute miles.

He "isn't obsessed with running" but went on a 2 week vacation to train at altitude with Nick Willis lol

Kessler ran faster indoor than Ryun ever did. It is obvious that he will run faster than Ryun outdoor. He will run under the trials standard in the 1500 also.

I came to the conclusion that we are seeing a lockdown effect in high school running and a lot of records are going to fall because the high school athletes are much better rested than their predecessors. Less running,. No daily high school grind. Well it's a theory.

Really? This kid would be 4th in the entire NCAA even though they were locked down also.
