CA track teams competing out of state

They are having meets in some parts of the state. My high school friend owns a timing company in Norcal and he sent pictures of a race up there about a week ago.

This is a complicated situation currently as you might expect. The current state guidelines would not permit this for a few reasons, especially if it's indoor track.

But the reality is that the state guidelines are not enforceable by themselves. You need some governing body to adopt them and enforce them. So if your county, school, conference, meet governing body don't prohibit it then I'd say that technically it's permitted.

There are plenty of people going against these guidelines and as far as I can tell there are no repercussions for doing so other than the occasional police showing up and the field and sending people home (but that wouldn't apply for out of state where I'm assuming local guidelines would permit the activity).

The stay at home is gone. Yes you can travel out of state to race. No problems at all.

The CIF is adhering to the California Department of Health guidelines. These were last updated Jan 25th, after the shelter in place was lifted. I am sorry if I am giving inaccurate information but I would think the guidelines currently are based on the Jan 25th update. A cut and paste from their site:

Is scrimmaging or competition allowed?

Inter-team competitions (i.e., between two teams) may resume in California beginning January 25, 2021, based on the guidelines outlined in this document. The status of return-to-competition is subject to change at any time given the level of COVID-19 transmission in California.

Currently, there is no timeframe for when tournaments that involve more than two teams will be permitted in California.

Travel outside of California for competition is not allowed, several multistate & multi-jurisdictional outbreaks have been reported in CA residents and around the nation.

No team stuff. If you want to run an out of state race on your own you can do what you want.

CIF has no authority to do anything. They can just control CIF stuff. The great thing about track is you don't have to race for anyone. If you want to go to Indoor Nationals in VA or some race anyplace else you can go. Race and have fun, just don't race for a team or club.

There will be many California kids running at indoor nationals.

just run unattached and youll be okay, as far as i know there isn't any ruling about quarantine now that the strict lockdown ended. As long as you run unattached you can do whatever you want.

I wish you all the best in your competitions. It's good to see things opening up. I've read a lot about the governor being open to relaxing things with sports so things could improve soon. I've also read reports about things getting more difficult as the out of state tournaments and organizations are being pressed not to allow teams from CA as it's against state policy currently. For example ECNL (the premier youth soccer league) has cancelled/blocked all out of state competition for CA teams at their events since the end of January. Just hope that it doesn't spread to other sports and organizations.
