If there are no deaths and hospitalizations then there is no need to "prevent infections." We don't lock down, get tested, contact trace, wear masks, etc to prevent "infections" of common colds.

the measures taken for the Covid-19 virus are appropriate for a virus for which a vaccine is new and not yet widespread in the population. Influenza has a vaccine and many people have been vaccinated for it, every year. There is a pneumonia vaccine and certain groups (very young and elderly) may get it. Cancer would not spread like a virus so a lock-down, if that is what you want to call it, wouldn't be effective. Save with HIV.
You need to dig a little deeper into the reasoning. It's not hard.
A friend told me a funny but true thing about the lockdowns. He said, "the rules and lockdowns are for the dumb people." He was suggesting only those dumb enough to obey and listen to the rules had to follow them. He has a point!

thanks for explaining it. Otherwise the rest of the dumb people may not have understood the lame advice.
I bet your friend isn't a health care worker that has to risk their lives to treat those infected by this deadly virus.
Are there really enough super bowl parties in the UK to cause a forth wave there?
yes yes yes wrote:

Health Care workers risk their lives every day by being around sick people who may have contagious and deadly viral infections. It’s part of the job. Covid hasn’t changed that aspect of the job. It’s made them busier and reduced their screwing around time at work. Those lazy pukes aren’t used to working constantly like most other professionals.
He does nothing but lie.
Fauci also headed up the HIV response, and the rhetoric he used then to spread fear throughout the entire population for a disease that only threatens specific segments. The SF crown hated this guy in the 80s. And we are letting him do it again.
This guys is not an expert, he's a 50+ year bureaucrat, who hasn't participated in real science in decades, but he has been involved in politics for 50+ years. If we keep listening to Fauci we will not be past this until he dies, because he will perpetuate as long as he can so he can keep going on TV and be a celebrity.

Fixed it for you.
Have fun drinking the leftist media kool aid.
He’s a creep. Wasn’t he telling us all early in to fly to China, and now we gotta wear 3 masks? Clown show.

Nah, you're off base with that comment. It's pretty simple really....you wanna increase your, and your loves ones, risk of Covid? Go to a super bowl party. You want to play it safe? Don't go. This advice is from Dr. Fauci, who is an infection disease doctor, so I think it's very appropriate for him to give guidance that would minimize, you know, infection disease spread. Not really sure what liberal/conservative has to do with that. Calm down bro.

And it's not leftist media Kool aid. It's actually not media at all. It's an infectious disease doctor giving advice on how to minimize the spread of infection disease. Take it or leave it, but leave your politics at the door.

Remember when Israel cured cancer?
No? Me neither.
Didn't stop them from making that claim:
At a time when cancer is spreading at a disturbingly fast pace across the globe, an Israeli biotech company have claimed that they will have the cure for this deadly disease by 2020.
Although different types of treatments are available in the market, but nothing promises to cure this deadly disease 100%. But Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies Ltd (AEBi), founded in 2000 from the ITEK Weizmann technology incubator has made bold claims to cure the disease completely.
In an interview to a leading daily, Aridor, chairman of the board of AEBi, has asserted that their cancer cure will be effective from the very first day and will last for a few weeks. Additionally, their medicines will have “no or minimal side-effects”. He further said that the cure for cancer will be available at a much lower cost than other treatments available in the market.
The treatment which the biotech company calls MuTaTo (multi-target toxin) is based on SoAP technology, which belongs to the phage

Nah, he's not a creep. That's just an example of doing what responsible leaders do, which is to adapt and revise their recommendations based on new information available, better insight into the problem, etc. It would be foolish to not change recommendations based on an evolving understanding of things, no? Decisions on policies and recommendations are based on the current best available information, I have no problem with these being updated in response to people gaining a better understanding of things as we get more information. Kinda think that's a sign of maturity and being responsible, not doubling down on something you know now isn't optimal. Wouldn't you agree? Or no?
I see what you're saying so I will somewhat revise my first statement. Yes, if everyone was vaccinated and no hospitalizations or deaths occurred, there would not be a need for masks or lockdowns. However, at this point, not even close to everyone is vaccinated. So vaccinated people can spread it to unvaccinated people who may develop a severe case of COVID-19 and require hospitalization and more than likely continue the spread to others.
When (if?) nearly everyone gets vaccinated such that we will achieve herd immunity that will be a different story. As a tidbit, herd immunity occurs when so many people are vaccinated, that the virus has no place to reproduce and as a result, there isn't much virus to go around. But right now, there is plenty of virus for everyone. That's why it's important for vaccinated people to continue wearing masks at this point.
If a time comes when not many people are vaccinated, but we somehow find out that the vaccine prevents infections, it would not be necessary for them to continue to wear a mask.
Another point is that the highest efficacy rating is 95%, so any of us could be in that 5% that receives no benefit. All of which is to say, at this very early stage, we need to be vigilant about masks and social distancing because even vaccinated people *may* continue spreading the virus.
So I will try to follow up on my original message: focus on the results, not the time frame. Look out for your friends, family, and communities by taking all precautions. I feel like as runners none of us should be strangers to this idea that progress isn't always linear. The goal stays the same. We don't adjust the goal if it doesn't come to us in a certain window.

Pfu that old rich white guy. He needs to shut up and step down. He knows nothing about football and what these POCs have sacrificed to get here. It's something that deserves celebration and especially during this month. Don't like it, you have a problem.
Honestly, not that big of deal. Just live your life. It will be over before you know it.
