Shot putters are like offensive lineman, guards. Back in the 1970s, guards were leaner athletes in the 260 to 270 pound range. There was no N.F.L. Combine in 1970s but we know guards could pull in that era. Some guards were relatively fast for there size. Today, N.F.L. guards are fatsos who average 5.3 40 yard dash. The last of the true pulling guards, Randall McDaniel, a 4.6 40 yard dash man. McDaniel used to do 100 yard repeats with tailbacks, cornerbacks and wide receivers.
U.S. shot putters have gotten chubbier from 1970s to today. Does being chubby make U.S. shot putters better?
U.S. shot putters are chubby because no one is telling U.S. shot putters not to be chubby.
