So a hard working blue collar American makes a mistake about running distances and it’s only for the cultural elitists to make fun of him? I don’t think so!

If a peon makes a mistake, it's up to his superiors to correct him.

This has NOTHING to do with 'running' distances. And has everything to do with the fact that 191 countries (ALL but the U.S., Libya, and Myanmar!!) use the metric system which we've been teaching in our schools for over 50 years.

Umm, you think contestants on jeopardy are blue-collar? Personally love Jeopardy but it is pretty white collar. Anyway, the responses were hilarious. Really you do not know the 10,000m is longer than a mile. What kind of garbage are we teaching in schools. I thought everyone had to learn the basics of metric vs imperial before graduating high school.

If Blue Collar America didn't truly act so much like Larry the Cable Guy, there'd be little to make fun of.
School was for learning.

In the US they started trying to teach the metric system in 1975. That’s only 46 years. I think they’ve given up. However it was recognized as important in 1866. Unless you are in science or engineering it’s a complete waste of time in the US. Interestingly, the US is one of only three countries that don’t follow the metric system.

I graduated from HS in 1981, and growing up, we spent as much time learning the metric system as we did Venn diagrams....about a week a year. If I didn't run and follow track, I'd have no idea meters vs. yards, km vs. miles, etc.
