Also El G was a clue and nobody had any idea about the distance of the metric mile. Guesses were 10 meters, 50 meters, and 500 meters. It was sad. Not like knowledge of the metric mile is exclusive to sports.

Is this "metric mile" a thing in the actual metric system, or just a term from track used for an excuse to keep running 1500 races after the 500m track bit the dust?
I have never seen any reference to it in another kind of metric measurement. I don't think it exists. Jeopardy was wrong to put it in a question.

Jeopardy! didn't put it in the answer. I think one of NBCs terrible announcers popularized the term metric mile.

Well it's kinda deceptive...why wouldn't the 1600m be better considered the metric mile vs another distance that's 100m farther away?
