That makes Ryan Hill the 6th best 5000 meter guy on BTC. Why is it such a big story that NAZ pouched thei number 6 guy. I’ve heard that Mcgorty is also ahead of Hill. Congrats to Ryan for making this a story.

He's the only running on the NAZ program now that has a world medal. He's become the best runner on that team the moment he put ink to paper. He's a big fish in a small pond right now.
NAZ is all about promoting their brand on social media so it will be interesting to see how Ryan adapts to that part of their team dynamic.
I’d put money on Tyler Day being able to bring it to Hill right now. I’m doubtful Ryan Hill is better than him currently.
He has had some excellent races but he is not on anyone’s short list to make the 5k Olympic team.

That is exactly why they brought in Hill. Tyler Day needed a training partner for 5k/10k since all his other teammates are marathon maniacs.

6. Fisher 13:11

Pretty sure OT champ Aliphine Tuliamuk would disagree with Hill being the No 1 NAZ elite runner. Hell, even Seidel who ran 2:25 in terrible conditions is probably better [Hall showed us it is worth a 2:23 on a flat course w good weather], and they aren't even wearing super shoes! Sure Hill has a medal, but that was a while ago, indoors. A lot of people have indoor medals who never went on to do much outdoors given much stiffer competition. Hill has only one US outdoor title, when he won a 5k jog in 13:50, which very much suited his style [Rupp was also absent - Hill went on to his best performance ever in an outdoor world championship that year, with a 7th place finish, behind every other American]. Sorry, Hill is great, but he is nowhere near the best NAZ elite runner. He is just the best men's 5km NAZ elite runner, which is great but let's not overstate it.

New flash: EVERY COMPANY EVER is all about promoting their brand. That's how they make money. By the way, NAZ is GOOD at it too.

Yeah, sure, but he's still a medal threat and is committed to sticking around in this sport for a while. Sounds like Nike wouldn't give him a contract that would have provided some security. He has a medal. Made a bunch of teams. Ran fast last year. & seems like a good team guy. Surprised Bowerman is going through some of these shake ups rn rather than keep the band together even if some people are more on the rise.
"Congrats to Ryan for making this a story." -- Are you serious? Why wouldn't you get some press in a sport that doesn't provide many of those opportunities. This is a free agent signing for NAZ Elite. You wouldn't bash another sport for covering the exact same thing. Plus it's helpful to hear how different groups negotiate with athletes.
I'm excited for this. This is a story because Ryan will be at the Trials trying to medal. If he can do that or come close, NAZ Elite might start expanding into the shorter distances. I don't care for monopolies & idk if you do OP but I think some competition is good for our sport if a group like NAZ Elite can build out a track squad to compliment what they do on the roads.

I think you mean NAZ elite is all about promoting Ben Rosario

Yeah, sure, but he's still a medal threat
Wait, what? By what metric? He's a long shot just to make the team from his past two years' performances. I couldn't bother reading anything else you said after this eye jab of nonsense.
Ryan Hill will make the USA 5000m final and be in contention over the last 1k when the racing begins.
HokaNAZ now has a contender in the men's 5k at USAs. That is why this is newsworthy.
If a 40+ year old Bernard Lagat can make a 5k Olypmic team so can a 31 year old Ryan Hill.
6th best on the best training group in the country. It doesn't matter where he was on his team's depth chart, just where he is in the USA pecking order.
does it really matter if TDay is better than him RIGHT NOW?
I would argue that the accomplishments you just listed cement Hill as NAZ's most accomplished runner! Aliphine winning the Olympic trials is a tremendous accomplishment, but Ryan's resume includes a longer history of accomplishment on a global stage, comparatively speaking. Aliphine has some pretty good road results, but has only previously made a US XC team, versus the amount of teams Ryan has made. He has made 3 5000m World teams in 2013 ,2015 and 2017 ,winning the 2015 title. He finished 7th at Worlds in 2015. He has won a global Silver medal in the 3000m in 2016 indoors, and has run an impressive 7:30.93 which is pretty elite time. His 5000m PB is 13:05, which is nothing to scoff at either. Sure, his former BTC teammates have overshadowed him in recent years, but that doesn't mean it's time to stick a fork in him yet!

Ryan Hill ran 13:15 over the summer and ran 7:38 in the indoor season before covid. Those are faster times than Tyler Day, so I wouldn't say that Day could 'put it to him'... And Tyler's last race was not a great one in the 10,000 at that Sound Running meet.
I like Ryan Hill, but it's pretty clear he is not in contention any longer and if he made a team, it would be an enormous upset. He essentially got dropped by Nike, with good reason -- they have about 5-10 guys as good or better than him.
Hill has about the same chance of medaling as Kincaid, which is to say no chance at all. Both are finished. BTC already has all the top spots locked down by their other guys, and if anyone’s going to sneak in it’d be someone like Day, Teare, or Grijalva.
NAZ is a complete dead end for anyone who wants to be anything more than a mediocre marathoner. It’s like the road racing equivalent of OTC.

If you are saying he had the best career, yeah, as in best runner historically. But he is not currently NAZ elites best runner, at this exact moment in time, based on recent results. Aliphine is the current OT champ. Sure if Hill wins the 5k, or even makes the team, then you'd have a good argument that Hill is the best, but until he does something within the past 3 years, he is not currently as good as Aliphine.
Literally just read the post under yours if it's not too much of a bother. Hill has made 3 US teams and ran 13:15 this past summer. He's going to make the final and is a medal threat. Idk he's in what the top-8? Not a favorite anymore but he's a professional who knows how to show up for the big races. Count the guy out if you like. Argue over what you want the definition of a threat to make the team is if you like. So much negativity on here.
