This is a fascinating story.
Sondre Guttormsen was a stud growing up in Norway. He went to UCLA in 2019 and jumped quite high (5.73 indoors and 5.80 outdoors which is over 19 feet). Now he's transferred to Princeton where his brother also vaults.
He's never actually set foot on the Princeton campus. He' s never competed in a Princeton singlet. He's training at home in Norway. But he recently vaulted 5.66m (18’7”) which is being described as the all-time Ivy record.
Thoughts?
Is it the best pole vault mark of anyone ever currently enrolled in an Ivy League school?

What does stepping on campus have to do with it? If a Princeton runner who had been there all the other years set a great mark at the Sound Running track meet a few weeks back would you have a similar issue?
It feels strange and wrong but there is nothing that anyone can do about it.

Sounds like Fake News to me. If he did it in the off season after competing for Princeton, okay. But not while in COVID hibernation.

A name mix up. Sondre was born in Davis, California. His brother, Simen.
Sondre Guttormsen is the eldest of a sibling group of four. He is a day student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he studies psychology. His two-year-younger brother Simen Guttormsen is also an active pole vaulter, who studies at and competes for Princeton University on a daily basis.

The Ivy League decided to CANCEL winter sports this year. They should not be awarding records to people competing in their own indoor track meets when as a League they decided to cancel the season.
They cancelled due to Covid but guys can jump in professional meets to break the conference 5k record. Makes sense. And a guy who may never visit the campus can set a record.
Did Pappas ever set foot in Greece before setting the Greek National Record? I really do not know, maybe she did.
A bit different. One requires being a member (citizen) of and the other requires attendance.
Attendance - the action or state of going regularly to or being present at a place or event.
I have been to the University but I don't attend the University. He has never even bee to the University so he can't attend the University. We are very good at redefining words over the past few years.

You underestimate the power of LRC.
I would think that records should have to be set by athletes on the college track team in a meet representing the college track team.

Same. Seems like he should have been in a meet competing for the school
Because there are academic standards to compete, I think it is ok. You could have a guy who goes to class everyday, but is academically ineligible, compete in a meet and it wouldn’t count.
What’s makes a student a student at a given university is that they are taking classes through that outlet.
People study abroad, take classes in prison, are physically unable to attend. This is weird but not wrong.
