Likely weigh too much to be an Olympic champion. But probably could be a solid college runner if the engine is large enough.
Your height and weight seem very typical for a runner of your size.
What level of "competitive" runner?
Also how much mileage do you do?
Im in varsity for highschool and my fastest pr for 5k is 15:31 if this helps, im running about 70 miles a week
You're fine don't worry about it. You're already pretty fast so just keep at it.
I was able to run a 14:20 5K at basically that exact height and weight. Most runners have a smaller build, but your size is not going to limit you from being a competitive runner. If you have some spare mass to lose, that's fine, but don't obsess about losing weight.
Generally yes, but Steve Scott was bigger as was Peter Snell and they both ran very well over those distances.
What type of 200 or 400 meter times do you have?
You mentioned your 5k time fo you have any 3200 or 800 times?
There is no way they were bigger, i searched them up and look like the typical runner build, or they couldve had muscle in a different unseen area or something.
As for 400 and 200, I never tested them, and my 800m - 2:08, 3200m- 9:53
Note: 800m was 3 years ago during out of shape phase
I am 5'11.5" too, but I was around 145 when I was training for 5K to half, but got down to 138, when I was training for marathon. At the distances you are training for you are probably fine.
I was a 6’0 190 pound college runner and I had no problems. People would always say stuff about my size but it never bothered me. As long as you can stay healthy you should be fine. My PRs ended up being 14:55 for 5k, 4:08 for the mile, and 1:52 for the 800
190lbs? Man you must have been a tank, did you lift alot?
Not really, I just had really big thighs and I was just like a big guy. My weight fluctuated from 175-195 but I was mostly at 190
