Little background first:
I'm self-taught amateur 800m runner, ran 2:04 last year and this year aiming for sub 2. On the fall I had a huge concentration on my aerobic running and now I'm starting to integrate more harder running. Last year (this same time, January-February) I did every other week longer repeats around 5K pace and every other week shorter repeats around 3K pace (e.g. minute-repeats) + every week lactate threshold type of stuff + sometimes light speed work or light race pace work.
But now, I have a huge temptation to change that last year's plan something like this: every week longer repeats AND shorter repeats, lactate threshold work as maintanace + still some light speed / race pace, so the main workouts would look e.g. like this: 1) 2-3km moderate + 4x1km @5K pace, 2) 8x 1'/1' @3K pace or slightly faster + some light race pace work / speed and 3) 3-4km lactate threshold type of work (not too demanding).
The problem here is that longer repeats are a big weakness for me, so I realize I should focus on them. But for the sake of my mental side, I would also want to include the shorter and faster stuff.
So the question is; so you think I'm distracted and trying to include too much stuff for one period, or is it manageable? At the moment I'm running 55-60km / week.
If it helps anything, my current abilities are:
100m: ~12s
400m: 54-55s
3K: 9:40-45min
5K: around 18min
