Happy New Year,
What is the most effective way to warm up in cold weather in order to run hard middle distance intervals?
I currently run a 4:45-5:00 1600m, training for a sub-4:40 1600m/ sub-4:45 mile. On track days I normally run a fast 800m, 1200m, or 1600m, and then do 400m at around goal pace.
When I run in temperatures below 50 degrees, I tend to lag about 2-5 seconds per lap behind pace. My heart rate stays very low (<150), even after longer warm-ups (~1 mile on the track). Today was typical: I shot for a 1210m in 3:30 but never really hit pace, ended up at 3:37.
Is there a fix for this? Just more warm-up? Faster warm-ups?
