Just went for an (inline) skate and wow my mind is blown it was so much fun. I use the word fun just because it contrasts to every other form of cross training, which is usual quite mundane and unenjoyable. Biking is literally impossible to get my heart rate up unless I want to descend into the pain cave for an hour, and swimming does get my heart rate up, but I don’t get to enjoy beautiful scenery. Elliptical and spin bike are just so boring I won’t even bother denouncing them. But I just threw on my old skates that I used for street hockey and got a great workout, heart rate similar to an easy running effort, except I was absolutely blazing in terms of speed. And on top of that the motion is bio mechanical the most similar to running. I could feel it was maybe a little bit more glute dominant, and a little more activation in stabilizing core and lower back muscles, and certainly less calf activation (zero), but other than that it felt almost like I was just jogging except I was going like 15 miles an hour. Anybody else skate to cross train? Is there a reason why it’s not widely accepted among runners like biking is? Maybe there’s some injury risk or something idk, because it seems like it’s the no-brainer choice for cross training.
