I'm a bit of a luddite, and have never owned a device to track my runs. For a long time I was really good at estimating my pace by feel, so I didn't worry about it. I started back up a year ago (after 3-4 years off), and assumed I was still good at estimating my pace. However, running on a couple of courses with known mileage recently made me realize I am way off (I'm running a lot slower, most of the time, than I think I am).
I'd like to start tracking my mileage and pace. I have an Android phone and would prefer not to buy more equipment, though I am not absolutely opposed to it. I prefer simple apps that work well. I'm a statistician, I don't need a thing that makes pretty, but mostly pointless, graphs for me.
My requirements:
1. Free or one-time payment of reasonable amount
2. Tracks mileage, pace, and elevation gain/loss as accurately as any GPS-based service will do
3. Is not at all annoying or cumbersome to use
4. Has an option to keep all runs absolutely private
If I am going to buy a piece of hardware, it must give me *accurate* heart rate readings as well.
Any suggestions?
