With very little prize money involved in this event and no other races available I think it is important to follow the money.
Athletes and agents were only going to get paid this year if they hit time goals that were built into their contract.
There was a financial reason to make sure that things ran fast. Take a look at the athletes that were paid on that day and who their agent is.
There were pictures on social media of Josh Cox altering the turns to make sure that the course was as fast as possible. I believe he represents at least 5 of the top 10 guys. For sure Sarah and Kellyn and Paige Stoner on the women’s side.
I figure there was a couple hundred thousand in time bonuses paid on that day.
I can not remember any other marathon where an agent that has something to gain financially is given the responsibility to work with the course measurer on the course.
There was a financial reason to make the course short.
