For some context: I am a 19 year old male. I ran in high school, but I never broke 4:45 at 162 pounds. After getting injured in march, I gained a ton of weight because I was lazy and decided not to do any cross training. I decided to get back into running again in August, and have been training semi consistently at about 40 miles a week (versus 60-65 in high school). I lost a little weight during this, but I eat like a cow, so I stayed pretty heavy. Recently, I decided to do this time trial, and was astonished by the results. I’m quite chubby, so it’s not like I gained muscle and power. I’m definitely considering trying to get back down to race weight after that time trial, because I think I could lower that by quite a bit if I lose weight. I think I definitely overtrained in high school, and I actually recovered on my recovery runs during this training segment, so I think that may have played a factor in my improvement. How common is it for a guy of my relative height and weight to run that time? Should I go through the effort of trying to lose weight to see how fast I can get?
Thanks!
