They should’ve used the money towards someone who actually has a passion for the sport.
He gets signed before Pestfly athletics. Looking forward to reaction from Pestfly CEO
Man Hoka and Brooks are really desperate for some teenage fans to compete with Tinman...
So they cut ties with Gags team NYNJTC but sign this kid?
The heir of Sage's career?
Sage, being now his team mate you could be some sort of mentor.
gross if true
Sponsors are looking for athletes that are also influencers. They will get more traction and sales with secondary and tertiary level athletes with likeable personalities than they do with hermits with Asperger's Syndrome. Like it or not, this is the new trend in marketing.
Good on Zach for creating an opportunity for himself. Apologies to all of you "serious" runners that didn't think of it first or just don't have a marketable personality or look.
How did you figure out?? That's wild

Yeah some how people don't understand this. Most companies are looking at ROI when they sign an athlete. Being 8th at the trials while impressive doesn't move the needle at all when it comes to selling merchandise. Having a kid with social media following posting about how great your gear is will sell stuff. Zach is a legitimate runner, no where near top level, but he has built a following and cashing in on it.
I don't see anything on his Strava indicating such except that he has some Hoka shoes.
If a trend continues where influencers are who the shoe companies spend their money on, I wonder what will happen to the elites' sponsorship/support.
This is why we need corporate teams like they have in Japan!
Would be a strange move. I understand getting influencers, but you want to grab one who has fanboyed over Nike as hard as he has?

Sage is definitely better, but from what I know about Zach Levet he could definitely follow in Sage’s footsteps. Is he vegan?
Good for him. Cobbling together a few incomes to make more than the average 20 year old is impressive. If the deal is "only" $40,000 plus free merch and he makes another $20,000 off YouTube views and Instagram deals then he's doing great. Imagine being 20, making $60,000, no office job, and living in whichever city you want.
His videos aren't for me but support the path.

internet has the memory of a goldfish in some ways. Once he starts hyping up hokas then people will forget about his comments about nike in the past
He actually recently posted a youtube video about his income stream! He has done quite well for himself and breaks down how he makes a six-figure income. I think he just turned 21.
It's a stretch to assume he is going to get $40,000 base salary. From what I head NAZ elite are all $15,000 base salary before bonuses(and none of them are sticky anymore). I bet he is getting no more than the $15,000 if true. I'd guess it's closer to a gear deal than anything else.

Why would you compare to NAZ.
He isn't being sponsored as a runner, he is sponsored as an INFLUENCER.
More people need to understand this. 40k views on a youtube video will make Hoka more profit than a 2:09 marathon will. Also see Tinman, Gwen, Sage, etc.
