Hi, I am a freshman in HS and trying to prepare for the winter/spring track season. The winter season got postponed and begins in February. I am 5'7, about 108 pounds, and pretty built in the arms, abs, and somewhat in the legs. I have never ran cross country or track before, and I started training for the 800m race about a month ago. My current PR was a week ago when I ran 2:29. I have been doing some speed work (ex 5x200m in 32 seconds, 3 minute rest), and some endurance work (ex 6x600 in about 2:06 average), and I just started doing some hills. I haven't really done many long runs, and the longest I've ran is 6 miles a few weeks ago. I tried increasing my mileage and my legs started getting very sore every day, and I didn't really find myself improving my 800m time very much. When I ran the 2:29 I ran the first lap in 1:11 and the second in 1:18, so I clearly need to find a way to run the second lap faster. I've done a few lactic acid and V02 max workouts, but I don't have anyone coaching me so I don't exactly feel that I know what I am doing. I don't have access to a gym or indoor track, but I do have access to an outdoor track, but the weather is getting very cold and windy and that has made me struggle recently. I've done a lot of bodyweight strength training as well. Are there any tips for what I can do to lower my time by the time the season starts, and is there a realistic time that I could get to by February? Also, if there are any questions about me I'd be happy to answer.
