Thank you so much! Glad you were able to get in touch with the staff there!
I really don't get why the coach (henner) and these athletes are so secretive about the injuries. As pointed out on the other thread, these are superstar additions to arguably the top team in the country, and those of us who follow NCAA are interested. I liked the analogy that was made to Zion's injury last year, as it's the same situation though obviously running is a much less popular sport.
What point is being served by Henner and KT and Starliper refusing to address the injuries? Injuries happen in this sport and every sport. Not exactly some big deal that they're dealing with injuries. What's wrong with "oh, Marlee was dealing with some tendonitis [or stress fracture or whatever] and we're taking it conservatively in working her way back..."? Sheesh.
To be clear, I'm referring to the fact that Henner "declined to go into specifics" about the injuries. Why not? She doesn't need to go into lots of detail, but what's the point of not even giving a sentence on the injuries?

I can think of two reasons.
1) As a college administrator, your worried about violating some sort of HIPPA law. There are all sorts of medical privacy laws.
2) IF you get into specifics with a standard running injury say knee, well does that set a precedent and then it will be obvious down the road if you refuse to comment on something like an easting disorder.

Interesting, and good points. I never once thought of any HIPPA violations.
It would have; however, been nice to have heard something over the past few months such as "We're not running them right now, we're saving them for a 'power punch' for later" or something along those lines...
It's just been months of NOTHING... So again, glad you were able to reach out and find out what's goin' on!
I'm almost expecting someone to post that he heard that Tuohy had a head transplant and will not run for a while.

FERPA as well. Colleges don't like giving any information out about students if they can avoid it in the non revenue sports. Saying nothing is the safer route.
HIPAA only applies to medical professionals, so the coaching staff doesn’t have any limitations with what they can or can’t say regarding the health of an athlete. Whether they should be sharing their athletes’ personal injury details is a different matter, but it’s not in violation of healthcare law.
Agreed with on the other point on not setting a precedent, though.
In a free eligibility year and a meet as inconsequential as ACCs I interpret this as-
both are currently dealing with major injuries.
Otherwise you throw them out there and get some experience if they are running and anywhere close to fitness. Only chance to race for the next few months.
Tuohy only had a heart transplant. It was Starliper that got the head transplant. That's gonna take a little longer to come back from and you won't recognize her when she does.
Was it because of overtraining?
How did Ingebrigtsen at age 19 avoid major injury?

I don’t get why an internet stalker needs to know about the injury of an 18 year old girl.
And no runner is Zion. Zion makes more money than all runners combined.

That would be my interpretation as well, at least they arent in the top 5 of the team at current fitness levels.
Its also possible trying to keep them out just to keep up the winning mental pysche.

Maybe because we are interested in the sport and want to know what's going on. Just the same as wanting to know the status on a college basketball players injury

Because Ingebrigtsen has the combination of being one of the most naturally talented runners to ever live and growing up in an environment perfectly made for, and later tailored to his athletic needs.

The only reason we get to know the status of college basketball players is because it affects major betting lines, has nothing to do with general interest in the sport.
They both went to the same school? And nc state at that? The best freshman female distance runner went to Stanford. Best miler anyway.

This was an uneducated post, and just disrespectful! And for the record the best miler did go to NC State not Stanford....that would be Marlee Starliper! And Tuohy has the high school record as well, but Starliper has been the best miler the past two years!

First, how has N.C. State been so secretive? I would bet that nobody asked coach Henes! Let’s Run asked and they got some answers. But to be upset about specifics of two 18 year old freshmen is a little ridiculous. We are not entitled to that if the athletes and parents don’t want that info released. NC State is very family focused and for all we know the coach is respecting their wishes.
Also, Starliper has always been very transparent in interviews......has anyone asked or interviewed Her???? I don’t think so! Now, Tuohy is a different story, her and her team have always been abrasive and secretive, so you may not get an answer there.
