The state championship in Georgia is in two weeks and most of the qualifications happened this past weekend. Each classification is split into eight, geographical regions and the top four teams at region get to compete at the state meet. The GHSA is completely behind in the times (or maybe there is another sport out there that they care about more) because they have 7 total classifications! This does not even count the smallest private school group. This allows 7A, which has the smallest number of schools, but the largest populations, to admit about 70% of the schools to the state meet. That is crazy and way too "everyone gets at trophy mentality." But more classifications means more revenue for playoff games for a certain other sport, which means they are generally blind to the cares of cross country.
Any other states with ridiculously poor standards out? (Btw, super happy just to have a state meet during these COVID times)
