When I watch elite runners (Kipchoge and Bekele) they have a constant mid-footstrike even during 8-9 minute warm up jogs. Rupp as well, but Rupp closer to a forefoot strike.
I feel like I definitely am not running that much on the balls of my feet while running easy, and probably not even while racing. I don't think this a small detail to glance over because when i try to focus on landing on the ball of my feet, it seems to decrease the ground time so there is less momentum loss with each step.
Seems like we should be training ourselves to run nearly entire runs this way.
Thoughts?
