Also, it's not a BIG D1 school. We don't have guys running 45 seconds lol. Most of them range from 48-51.

I sent an email out a couple of months ago; no response. (not to toot my own horn or something) but my times in high school have been faster than some of those even of the d1 team. I really want to contribute in any way that I could but I guess if there is no chance, it's okay.

No, you are not good enough to run for that D1 school.

You ran a time in that range correct, even if it was to the lower end of the spectrum

Doubtful. Roster spots are limited. Are you sure the guys are really 400 specialists who ran slower? If so, check their high school times and you will find that they are faster.

This reminds me of my college distance coach's favorite MD joke that would absolutely enrage all the sprinters that were struggling in that 48-51 range .

A: An 800m runner.

They(long sprint group) would get so mad, and would say he didn't believe in them, if they only had the right training, could get in the right heat, they know they could "get there" by senior year, etc.

Fact is, sprint talent is sprint talent. If they aren't pushing 47 low by the end of soph year, they aren't going to be a contributor, except maybe on an indoor DMR team, who could always use a one shot 47 flat guy.

In the end he was almost always right. The HC gave those "sprinters" 2 years to show they were well on their way to high 46, and if not he gave them the choice to move up, or move on.

As a side note, the distance coach would always talk to those type of 400m guys and try to convince them that they might have a real shot at 1:48-1:50 range and might contribute at least at the conference level(decent mid-major school and conference) if they committed and went hard at that goal. It was amazing the number who quit because they would rather toil away in mediocrity rather that reach for the brass ring, even if they fell short.

Option a. Ask an anonymous message board that couldn't possibly give you a legitimate answer that wasn't s guess. So I will answer. 1. Yes. 2. No.

Option B. communicate with the coaching staff at the university who can give you a real time answer based on facts.
