I dunno, I would hope he's been redshirted.
Where is the entry list?
Is Soren racing?
everyone's redshirted, this season doesnt effect eligibility
He’s the biggest true distance recruit in years. I just checked his Instagram, 27.5K followers and verified. He’s extremely high profile right now.
This is probably why he’s not racing. Coach Smith just wants to get the pressure of being the best guy out there off his back and get some good training in. Long term this race will mean nothing to him.
Give the young man a break. He raced over the summer pursuing some HS records and he is likely still adapting to living and training at altitude in Flagstaff.
Redshirt plus this year is a wash who cares. NY will be an Olympian one day

He is never racing again, I talked to him and he’s moved on.
Yeah, definitely makes sense. I think we’re all just excited to see him race again.
My big question is how is he adapting to workouts in the NAU system. More aerobic in nature but is he not ready? How is the kid handling all of this? I hope all is well with him as he starts his career.
My guess is like others said the season is a wash, he raced over the summer and peaked for a 5K attempt so my sense is that his coach wants to bring him along slowly. I imagine with prior training he is up to the work outs, but with how hard he has trained, I was worried he might get injured. I think taking a step back for now might be best for his long term career as opposed to risking an injury and hurting his confidence.

More like the opposite. When you're a High School star like Nico who did not run tons of miles it's smart for Mike Smith to bring him in slowly. It's hard when he ran in the 60's in high school and has to make a big jump to the 10k. This cross country season is a wash, why risk it an run him. If it was a regular season then he most likely be running.
He is 11th man on the team right now.
There have been countless great HS runners that competed during their freshman year of college. What makes Nico so different? That he ran extremely fast race times doesn't necessarily mean he trained harder than other people.

I can tell you that Nico has been handling workouts very well, running with the top group and more than holding his own against the likes of Luis G and Drew B. I did hear he had some mild injury issue he's been dealing with, so it made sense for him to stay home on this one. Coaches and team members have said he's showing that he's the real deal during workouts, so I'm inclined to believe them.

Nico's just special. And lots of top colleges redshirt kids, so their bodies can mature more. Look at NAU, sometimes Georgetown, BYU (technically the kids are doing mission stuff). Nico trained a lot harder than many high schooler. His mileage was high, as that was part of Sean Brosnan's ideology. Sure, a lot of people train high mileage (Great Oak), but Nico trained high mileage with quite a bit of intensity. So all of this is done so that for Nico's final two years, he will be a year older than the competition.

So why waste eligibility on a Covid19 season.
But that begs the question.....Why not at least run him unattached like Wetmore is doing with his athletes.
THIS SEASON DOES NOT COUNT. EVEN IF THEY RUN, IT WILL NOT EXHAUST A SEASON OF ELIGIBILITY. SUGMA NUTZ
