NSAF hosting Nationals at Laverne Gibson 11/15/2020. This is the same organization that hosted the New Balance Track Meets. With NXN and Footlocker cancelled, expect this to be the real nationals this year.

If you are a coach from nj or ny would you take your team knowing they will have to quarantine once you get back home?
Not sure many schools will let their team get on a plane just yet
I would expect this to be capped heavily or most likely cancelled.
They just announced it today and it is only 6 weeks away. What would possibly cancel it. They will be holding their state meet there before it. My team competed at a meet on Saturday that included 1500 runners.

Abso-friggin-lutely.
Pressure from the state or most likely county. Sounds like a possible superspreader event.
How is it different than the other hundreds of neets they are hosting in their state? Do the out of state kids have more Covid than the Indiana XC runners?
Planes. Further traveling distance. Maybe runners coming from higher infection rates. It matters. I would expect this to be mostly an in-state event or regional at best. But mark my words, this event will not go on as originally scheduled. If not hopefully more responsible states will ban their runners from coming.

Fun sponge
I hope you won't be there to ruin it for thousands of kids. Local? You can drive there from everywhere except the west.
The drive to Terre Haute
Atlanta - 8 hours
Chicago - 3 hours
Minneapolis - 9 hours
NY - 12 hours
Detroit - 6 hours
Des Moines - 6 hours
DC - 10 hours
Memphis - 5 hours
Pittsburgh - 7 hours
I think COVID discussion and an event like this should almost be in a separate thread.
My main question with this race is the date.
It's not a true high school nationals if a bunch of states can't make it. Personally I'm glad to see groups filling the void.
Is it too early in the year and how many state meets does it conflict with? The Texas state meet is November 21. So they are out. Being from Texas that's not ideal.
Traditionally FL regionals were the weekend after Thanksgiving right. I just wrote the NSAF people to to see if they could push back to that week. Everyone could make it then.
So my question is what states have state meets after this date. I don't see the need for a pseudo nationals when you could have a full fledged one 2 weeks later.
What am I missing?
The press release can be distilled down to this:
Wealthy real estate developer sees an opportunity to buy his kid a national title at a "national championship" meet that will likely be poorly attended (much of the country isn't contesting XC this fall) and that is scheduled in a manner that creates conflicts for potential competitors that are having a season.
NSAF, still stinging from being dumped by New Balance earlier this year, tries to become relevant again. In the process, they are also publicly pissing on Nike's NXN and the Footlocker/New Balance XC Nationals that have been canceled for 2020. While they enjoy a small victory, they have also insured that no deep pocketed shoe company will ever bankroll an NSAF event going forward. In 2021 or 2022, NXN, Footlocker, and NB Indoor and Outdoor Nationals will be back and this meet will be relegated to history's scrap heap.
Would agree the date is not ideal. I'm interested, but this is in-season.
1/2 of the NXR meets would have been on this date and the others 1 or 2 weeks later. Footlocker regionals would have been end of Nov. Many state meets are the last weekend in October. Looks like they chose the date of the MW NXR regional that would have been held there. Probably made it easier with hotels, vendors, transportation, officials, timing, and everything else. Many kids would lose interest if they have nothing for a month. Midwest kids are used to running NXR Heartland or NXR MW mid Nov and then FL MW the end of the month.
More like the Indiana state championships light. "MARK MY WORDS"
Two California teams registered within hours of the announcement. My concern is the opposite. How will they limit and determine the teams in the championship race?
The top programs have the power. If they all commit to a meet that is where everyone will go.
This meet would be perfect 2 weeks later.
So New Balance Nationals is no more? Is that what some poster is saying?
NJ sectionals is around then which is our last meet of the year for xc
Nah
Have multiple races. Foot Locker and NXN stepped out, screw them.
Do a race now, another in two weeks then keep it up.
Do this throughout the country.
Yes, you will see good runners enter under assumed names. So what?

yup this should be in early December
I can see a lot of schools allowing this. if you are a national xc power house, your school most likely values this and the kids can keep up with remote learning. will be even easier for individuals attending. 2 week quarantine is no problem. A great majority of xc athletes are hard working, high achieving students.
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?

Do "running influencers" harm the competitive nature of the sport?
What is the most stupid running advice you've ever heard?🤣(It can be funny)
