That was a redonculous finish.

It was pretty cool to see her make up the distance.
And to take down the world champion in the process.
May have been covered in the other thread but she got a medical exemption to wear ASICS prototypes that are not available to all. Is that the very definition of ironic considering her and hubbies stance on ‘super shoes’ in the past....?
She was going through some serious discomfort that last 5k. Wow.

But maybe she was making a statement about the bigger picture.

Meh, no story here. She adopted 4 Ethiopian sisters. Give her a break.
Unfortunately more people aren't talking about her race. Great finish chasing down the world championship winners and a PB on a cold windy day when other top finishers were well off their PBs.
Don't ever write her off. She loves to come from behind. Check out these clips comparing what Deena K said about her and 20 years ago.

Eh, if you can't beat them join them. Who knows how many places non-Nike athletes have lost out on over the last few years. We just need things to be equal or appear equal so we can go back to focusing on the athletes & celebrating good results. I'm glad ASICS has a good shoe.

I have a feeling that it was allowed for the reason that all components are available to the public. It seems to be a Metaracer upper and Adidas adizero adios pro midsole hybrid.
She is looking more and more like Deena 2.0
I hate to play the "what if" game, but what's Hall's 2:22:01 worth considering it was run in conditions where none of the other top 5 finishers PR'd?
What an amazing career she's had, from high school til now at age 37.
As soon as she dropped Magness as a coach, she improved a lot
Magness is incompetent.

I bet the primary factor in a lot of times being not close to PRs was a short build-up with different training conditions and a lack of 100% fitness. A lot more people looked really trashed after the race than we're used to seeing. Sara was pretty nearly the one athlete who said the training went amazingly well. Still, I can't think the rain and hail helped. I don't think it's fair to think she could be sub-2:20 in perfect conditions, but I think sub-2:21 is for sure in her wheelhouse in the right conditions now. Crazy to remember the Sara Hall of 10 years ago and think that she's probably fit enough to get after USA #2 all time in the marathon at this point, but I think it's a real possibility.

Has anyone improved or performed well under him? He seems like an extremely mediocre coach who has done nothing to justify his visibility other than 4:01 in HS and orbiting Alberto during the scandal situation.
With that strong and very fast finish and lot of energy left it should be no problems for her to run sub 2:20 . Looks like it will come in a race next year.
A lot of energy left? She was very obviously pained over the final miles and pushing at 100%. She still positive split by over a minute! If she can keep progressing, who knows what her ceiling is. But, she hasn't done anything that indicates she's there for a sub-2:20 yet.
