To all the 'STRETCHERS' who waste your own time getting into weird positions and waste my time by always banging on about it: You have ruined what was once a great and simple sport!

I agree dude. All these poser fashion joggers are only trying to show off their bodies.
The posers also buy 2 inch $80 Nike shorts and roll them up twice. Buy spandex two sizes too small so that their cheeks are out.
Enough is enough.
It's time to take back our sport.

STFU man, I'm VERY OKAY with lovely runner ladies continuing to do this.
But as for the topic, I've never stretched and never will. Life, like my hamstrings, is too short for such nonsense.
Stretching spandex is part of the problem, it all comes back to stretching. Think about it, you are pushing something beyond its natural form - you don't go around stretching your hair or your bones or your walls to get a bigger house! makes no sense.
Whilst I am a believer in short shorts for racing purposes, people who wear for fashion reasons are the WORST. Fashionists are literally going against all common, decent values. Don't get me started on the 'instagram generation' who will not only ruin running but the entire world.
What about long jumpers who wear only small garments and jump into the sand, you are VERY OKAY with that?? YIKES.
Knickers do not enhance performance. They are just worn for their male teammates to look at. SHAM SHAM SHAM
Not needed, but does not really hurt. Dynamic is better than static, but to each her own.

I'd like to go back to the days when everybody was running in burlap sacks and tissue boxes on their feet!
Don't basically all the elites stretch. And quite a lot. Just saying.
Agree 100%. Let's go back to the old days, when everything was awesome. Or even better, we should go back to what those people called the old days, when everything was more awesome still.
I agree that people do it too much but some need it to a degree. Have you ever coached someone with a bad range of motion in their hips? It can be easily avoided.
But, you're mostly correct
I read that title and I thought man what in world that has gotta be the stupidest assertion ever heard that literally makes no sense at all. But then I thought I’m definitely probably just missing some context and it will be explained after I clicked on it. And it turns you really meant what the title says hahaha.
As if woman wear spandex to please men. Guys maybe they are just comfy and they give confidence.
1) of course they're comfy, it's just underwear
2) they're confident because they get to show off
The most Boomer troll statement of all Boomer troll statements.
All of societies problems and ills can be traced back to Boomers. Worst generation of all time.
Thank you for making me feel young.
Stretching was a whole lot more popular 40 years ago when I was in my prime than it is now. You must be talking about the 1930s or something.
No. Didn’t you see the video of Kipchoge trying to touch his toes and all his teammates making fun of him cause he couldn’t? No elites stretch

I'm just spitting the facts here. Should men wear short spandex shorts? The answer is so obviously no! So why is the bar so low for women?
This is why women earn 77c to the man's $1. Society doesn't hold them accountable to social standards so they get outcompeted in the job market.
And then they have the audacity to complain about inequality of outcome. Even though they had the same opportunity.

Some coaches waste a lot of practice time with stretching and form drills that could be spent running. My kids run cross country for a different school than they attend (because their charter school doesn't offer sports). As such, they are always late for practice, so they typically miss the stretching and form drills. In spite of that, they are still the top kids on their team and have improved the most, even though they miss a number of practices to play on the competitive soccer team I coach. My soccer team never stretches except when we do multiday tournaments (I just have them run a half mile with a soccer ball at the start of every practice to limber up before we get into footwork drills and the bulk of practice. In spite of that, we have not had a soft tissue injury in the three and a half years I have been coaching competitive.
