Son has really wide feet on top of a bunion. Right now he wears 9.5 wide NB running shoes. Length has about 1/2" gap. Width is a little narrow.
I am unable to find wide xc spikes. Getting a few sizes up limits the grip. Putting him in a regular width shoe would cause that shoe tip to pucker like a second grade teacher's lips shushing you.
What do I do? Any wide shoes out there?
The Altra's typically have a spacier toe box, which may or may not accommodate one's bunion. Their shoe I have in mind is the Altra Vanish-XC:
Thanks for the hint. Altra doesn't usually come up in searches for xc spikes unless you specify the brand.
That Vanish is spikeless but the Golden Spike showed up alongside and it has the same wide toe box construction you mentioned.

I wear a size 9, 2E in several different New Balance models and the Altra Golden Spike in a size 9 is a perfect fit for my feet. I tried New Balance and Adidas spikes first but neither came in a wide and their standard offerings were way too tight as anticipated.
I actually recommend the altra vanish xc over the goldens.

I went with the Golden Spike because I wanted replaceable spikes. What advantage does the Vanish XC have that you’d recommend it over the Golden Spike?
