still 10 sec short of my time
I'm 6-7, played small college basketball, and was able to break a 5 min mile. My only advantage was being 190ish. Any top flight cbb perimeter player should be able to run a similar time. My best mile times were always during or right after bb season.
I’ll be honest... that weight at 6’7” is not that ridiculous to me nor is this feat THAT impressive. I would wager there are a large number of NBA athletes that could pull this off.
I have a hard time believing he’s really 6 foot seven because he was 6 foot four as a senior in high school so it beggars belief that he grew an extra 3 inches between being a senior in high school and in college. He’s super skinny and built almost like a distance runner or was at the time.
The fastest tall guy award has to go to 6-10 Luke Beevor of FSU - 14:18 for 5k on the track. He was at FSU around 2003-2006.

Jack Bacheler was a two time Olympian and was 6'7".
Interesting RW article about elite marathoners over six feet.

Look up Scottie pippen if you don’t think basketball players will grow in college.
The article misses Peter Maher -- a 6'5" Irishman that ran for Canada and was a 2:11 guy.
I don't think it's that impressive an achievement. I'm a little taller than that, and ran 4:55 when I was 215-220 pounds and not running that much. My lifetime PR is 4:43 from when I was super skinny, so that will give some sense of how mediocre my abilities are.
I think it's pretty good considering that he's a basketball player and not a runner
One of my high school teammates was 6'6" and ran 3:47 in college, so tall guys can run fast.
Still good for a basketball player, not surprising given many of the bulky decathletes can get around the track in that time.

And David Robinson. I don't know what Ghost1 is talking about. It's not uncommon for guys to continue growing during their college years.

You do?
Never heard of any male growing like this before?
Wow he ran a time an unathletic 13 year old can run their first year of running
Wasn't there one 6'5" Ethiopian guy that ran 2:04 in Dubai a few years back?
Had a 6'5" middle schooler, who later played 1 season in the NBA, run 5:10 in 8th grade with minimal training. He also went on to place top 3 in J.O. shot put that year. Had great HS career in shot/disc as a side sport to hoops. He is still playing pro ball in Europe. World class athletes can do amazing things off talent and determination. Some athletes are on another level.
Basketball player heights are commonly taken while wearing shoes and typically inflated by an inch or more. Also weights are whatever they want to report and don't account for gains and losses over the season. He could be 6'5 and a half and 210 so a good time for a bigger guy but not earth shattering.
The most telling part of this tweet:
"fastest time I've ever been a part of"
This is obviously not common. I'm sure some basketball player somewhere has done this, but it's a first in his 25 years in the college basketball world.

I would not call a 13 year old who can under 5 minutes in their first year of running unathletic.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
