I don't understand the negativity around the Nike Tempo Next %

I said the same thing in the previous post about the Tempos. Reviewers need to give us an idea of what their fast pace is. If their fast pace is 6:30, then I am going to take their review with a grain of salt. This shoe will not work for everyone, that is the case for any shoe, but maybe more so for a shoe with so many parts and a unique design. I think these need to be tried out by anyone who is seriously interested or usually runs in Nike. Although, I do understand the hesitation given the price and that the shoe is not very versatile.

I think the controversy is that the shoes give you back too much bounce to the point where it’s questioning if that technology is fair to wear in competition. Buying a pair of those shoes is basically buying a PR if you are in good (enough) shape to do so.

The shoes are not "legal" for competition due to their stack height but who wants to race in a 10oz shoe anyway? It's a training shoe.

Totally agree. I think beyond reviewers giving us their fast pace, they might also want to add if they're landing with their forefoot or their heel. If you land on your heel with these shoes, I imagine they're going to feel pretty awful.

I have maybe 50mi. in the Tempos so far and have been pretty happy. I was a bit afraid they wouldn't be able to replace the Turbo 2s, but I think they'll work well. While they weigh more, it really isn't as perceptible when running.

I think a lot of people that are giving bad reviews have a few points.

1) Most people that bought the Peg turbo got it on sale. The tempo won't be less than $200 for quite a while.

2) A lot of people going out for a tempo run wear the same shoe for the warm up and cool down. The Peg turbo feels comfortable in that scenario while the tempo feels terrible at slower paces.

3) Since the Peg turbo has been discontinued in favor of a less versatile and more expensive shoe, reviewers are recommending shoes that are actually better replacements for the Peg turbo than the Tempo next %.

Until the Tempo Next% goes on a steep discount, it's not a smart choice unless it's purely a vanity purchase. Even then, to me the Tempo Next% looks like a mishmash of designs cobbled together in a hastily done manner.

I’m trying to decide on picking up the Tempo when they release next week or holding off for another pair of the Alphafly.

I’m a forefoot striker and tend to do most of my mileage around or below 6:30. These sound great for me but I’m debating since the Alpha are only $75 more. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't get it either, I found them absolutely fantastic to run in the other day. It's almost become "hip" to bash on Nike nowadays among the YouTube reviewer community but these are a great training shoe for faster work. I think people that don't land on the Zoom Air pods with a more forefoot strike won't get the benefit of the shoe and aren't the intended audience anyway. It's different than the Turbo and less friendly at all paces but it really made running faster feel easy.

Worst nikes I’ve had in years. Sent mine back, would rather find next %s on discount and train in those. These are too narrow, hard, and just not fluid like turbos

Sent them back? Where do you live? They haven’t even released here in the States.

Bought a pair with 20% off promo code. Additionally, as a NIke + member I have the option to return if they are horrible. I am optimistic they will be a good WO shoe for marathon specific stuff.

Ordered mine last week. Arrived in 2 days. Took them out for tempo run this morning. I don’t know about Next % but there is 0% chance that I will get rid of these. What a shoe!!

If you have run in the Alphaflys you know what you are missing with this shoe.

For a little bit more money you can by a MUCH better shoe for training with the Alphafly (If you want the AirPods) if not you can buy a pair of Next% that are better than both shoes, period, end of story.

I see why Nike was trying to do with this shoe. It probably works for some (i.e. I did love the Zoomfly 3 for fast runs) but given the choice between buying a second pair of Alphaflys or Next% for training or the Tempos... it's not even a real choice.

I am running in mine tomorrow for a 15 miler (2x4m at M pace). Will report back.

What I don’t get about this shoe is everyone is saying it only works as a fast day shoe yet it weighs like 10 oz. There are plenty of other options on the market of shoes that work great for going fast yet weight much less. Which I would think you’d want in a shoe that is specially for going fast.

Also they seem awfully expensive for a shoe you’d wear only a couple times a week in training.

A lot of people saw SJD early review on them and it turns out that he ran a 17 miler in a fake pair of tempos. My take on the shoes is that they feel good but I'd rather not buy them. The majority of the foam is ZoomX yet they're somehow way heavier than the Alphafly. I'm concerned that the shoe will bottom out very quickly.

The Tempo next % are a great shoe, have worn them repeatedly now for training runs and they feel great running anything fast.

I wear Pegasus 37s and Brooks Ghost 12 for my everyday training runs.

I just ordered the Vaporflys and the Alphaflys which will arrive this week, so will test and see how they compare.

I think I’ll end up rotating the Tempos, Pegasus and Ghost 12s for training and use the Vaporflys for road races.

Dunno what I’ll do with the Alphaflys ?

They were not fake the site he got them on was also the one that Sam from RoadTrailRun got his and he gave them a great review
