The javelin motion is very similar to pitching and uses a lot of the same muscles and arm quickness.
If Vetter trained for it could he become the best pitcher that ever lived? I could see him throwing @120mph. Who's gonna hit that?

No it does not.
They may be not be that similar but they are basically both classic overhead forward throws. No way does Vetter pick up a baseball and not be able to throw it 90-100 with no training. Probably would have great throws from outfield as well. Reaching home base easily every time.
Zelezny already tried it. He had issues keeping the ball down at max speed. He could get the ball over the fence in atlanta from home plate with a crow hop. The jav motion is much more ergonomic than pitching is. I believe there was a pitching coach in florida that tried to mimic a more natural javelin like throwing movement. But the dogma of baseball laughed him out.
Interesting. Didn't look very natural at all watching Zelezny pitch.
Hmm. He was a pretty thin guy compared to the guys now.

Yeah, not too similar.
FWIW the last two HS jav recordholders that I remember both ended up in pro *football*: Terry Bradshaw and Russ Francis.
No too similar, huh?
I'd say that the power positions are almost identical. The trajectories are obviously different and pitchers have more knee flexion at the block due to the descent and again, trajectory. Other than that, there are MANY similarities.
I added the 'javelin' line for reference, btw
When pitchers are allowed to start their wind up by running in from center field (like javelin throwers), we might have something. The alternative is having pitchers throw a baseball that weighs about 2 pounds like a javelin (instead of 4-5 ounces like a baseball)?
Similarities are obvious in that the ability to generate release velocity at the end of a flail like motion is great but the preliminary movements are what make these guys unique as athletes.
Also when pitchers actually become more of well rounded athletes like javelin throwers we can talk. Half the pitchers in the MLB have beer bellies.
Try to find a javelin thrower like this fatty..
