The key to reach individual optimum performance is to look for least possible volume to reach.
This is a well written piece that brings out the difficulty in trying to decouple various training parameters. While exercise physiology is useful, having a good coach watch over your training is indispensable. The papers cited did not say what happens when the athletes went back to their normal middle distance program? Did the athletes show an across the board improvement or was there any regression among the sprinter types?
