So how long do you stnad in the ice bath for
recovery?
15 min. after the first 3 i dont care how long... the first 3 min i hate!
i do 15 then have a hot bath after wards. do you think the hot bath takes away any of the effects of the ice bath?
Until my balls are tucked so far in my body they sag out my nostrils.
10-12 minutes usually.
The whole reason we ice bath is to reduce inflammation and to help our legs recover faster....I don't think its wise to take a hot bath right after you ice bath because it would take away from the total benefit...And you only really need to stay in there for 10minutes but it has to be cold not sure on the exact temp index but I tend to use three sometimes four 7 pound bags of ice especially in the summer when the pipes are hot and its hard to get the water cold.
Basically 22.5 hours a day, but only 22.0 on long run days.
(I'm typing this from the ice bath.)
If you ice too long can it have a detrimental effect on the legs
i have heard / read that you should ice the muscles (ice bath 15mins or so) as this helps close up the microscopic tears in your muscle fibres, that occur during training. it does this by stopping blood rush in and damaging them further.
after the ice bath, if you then apply heat (heat packs or normal bath) this then allows the blood to flow back into the muscles (which cannot now be damaged further), helping to remove any bi products, and waste etc (carbon dioxide and lactic acid).
might be wrong but thats what i think.
the trainer at my division one school said you can ice bath for up for 20 minutes...and after a while the ice has the same effect as heat, therefore it is not damaging to take a hot shower after getting in the icetub, ALTHO she recommends to not be in the hot shower for more than 10 minutes.
12 min
12-15 minutes in a tub (acutally a clean garbage can used just for this purpose) with six 7-lb bags of ice
I've always heard there is no benefit after 15 minutes
If you do it too long you can get frostbite.
fooooooreeeeeeeeeeeever
10 minutes. The first minute is pretty rough - after that, its easy.
im moving to the artic circle to make my ice baths more effective. then i will be the world's best!
Doesn't Meb have a river in his back yard that he sits in for recovery? The water comes right out of the mountains and is supposed to be around 40 or 50 degrees.
12-15 minutes, ideally with constantly pouring new ice into it to keep the temp constantly low.

no it doesnt do any damage, it is recommended that you take a warm bath afterwards to dilate you blood vessels once more
