end of March this year I started running in addition to working out in the gym.
I got myself two pairs of shoes (I hope, Adidas Ultraboost 20 and Solar Boost 19) which I change very session. Due to Corona I was not able to go into a store and have a professional look at how they fit etc, but they are both very comfortable and I tested about 6 to 8 different models if i recall correctly.
I had absolutely no idea how to start, so I just ran. I was way too fast and had to stop after 4 minutes or something, but I wanted to run at least 3 km. So I did a lot of breaks and short periods of running, I was sore for days. Anyway, I looked up how to start and sticked to a plan, after about 2 weeks I was able to run 30 - 35 minutes with a pace of 5:30/km or something. After I was able to run for a bit over 30 minutes I noticed I cannot run every 2 days because of immense pain in my shins. When I started my second or third 30 minute session I had to stop after 5 minutes because the pain was way too much to handle, I couldn't walk and even just standing still did hurt a lot. After each session I measured my heartbeat with my Galaxy S8, I have no idea how accurate that thing is but it was always about 190 - 195 bpm which I figured is a little bit too high.
I stopped running for 2 weeks until the pain was completely gone. Then I lowered the pace to about 6:40/km and have been doing only one session a week ever since. But I still have pain in my shins for days, so even if I would I couldn't do more than one session per week. I usually run on Sunday and the pain lasts up unitl Friday, sometimes Saturday. My heartrate with the lowered pace stays at 170 bpm.
My questions are:
Is this pain normal?
What can I do to reduce the pain so I can run 2 times a week?
I have to add, my legs were probably pretty untrained due to a problem I had in my knee. I was not able to workout my legs at the gym for a long time, no squats etc. I had it checked by a doc now and we might have fixed the problem.
