The minimum goal he set is breaking the meeting's record of 12:48. It all depends the shape he's in, the pacing(will there be wavelights?) etc.
McSweyn has to choose between 1500 and 5000m, Crippa will attack Italy's NR in this race. Will there be other ethiopians in the race? We'll hear soon.
It would be nice if Barega gives a try for the WR. Thanks to Cheptegei to create this emulation!

lol it would be super dope if he immediately took the record from Joshua. i love joshua, and i think that would just fire him up more for his 10000 attempt.
Very interesting
Barega must be doped out of his mind right now.
Jacob should have jumped in this instead of tomorrow’s 1500. Would have been cool to see him run low 1250s

I'm pretty sure Chep isn't doping, but it's almost certain Barega is up to the gills with EPO.

Hopefully he goes for it. If there was ever a year to focus on pushing your personal limits its this one. He was only 6 seconds off in a poorly paced race 2 years ago (8 seconds now).
That being said I'm not sure I see him as anymore special then Gebremeskel or any other Ethiopian whose run a few quick times on the circuit and doesn't really have any other accomplishments.

Jakob probably wants to beat the iron while it's hot. I think he's currently in a great seasonal shape on the distance, and he probably doesn't want to miss any occasion to have a magical moment on the 1500m.
I'd have thought that Jakob would go after low 12:50s or better this year, but no attempt so far.
Barega was an on again, off again runner in the past. It depends what kind of shape he is in. He was in absolutely fantastic shape in his 12:43 race, where he had Kejelcha to pace the whole way and might have gotten the wr on that night with quicker pacing through 2k at least.

Are you insane? What do you think about Bekele, Geb, Komon? If you think they were doping, then how can you believe a clean guy is running the 5000 10 seconds or more faster than the next clean guy?
They are all "assisted" and there can be no other way.
Is it still Hassan v Gidey over 5000 here as well?

Now that would be juicy. Unlike Cheptegei, he's getting the weather right. It certainly wouldn't shock me. God, that woudl be great for the sport if he got it.

Didn't you also say there's supposed to be a 3000 added to the Rome schedule? That doesn't seem to be the case.
would be phenomenal Rojo, and Barega is the talent that can do so. With good pacers, or wavelight, I believe a low 12:40 is in the cards, at minimum!!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
