He lost.
Yes he did loose.
And he is disappointed in that loss. However, a teenager setting the European record and continuing to improve is still very promising. At 20 years old next year he is setting the stage for an epic showdown.
Kudos to Tim here, great and very courageous running!
To be the European 1500m GOAT at his young age is amazing.
3:45 mile equivalent. kid is absolutely a monster.
Agreed -- and note that Cheruyiot won in spite of his insane 52.59 first lap, and in spite of having the weight handicap of those big brass b**ls to carry around the track.
Hahaha. Jakob haters are getting desperate. Most are quiet now that they've seen what an immense talent he is and still improving!
Cheriyut just barely beat him and not too long ago they were talking about how far ahead of everyone else he is. Long live Jakob!!

Yes, I don't get it.
Jakob at 19 keeps improving. is Tim better right now, yes he is, but the gap is shrinking!
Looking forward to Tokyo and Jakob's continued improvement.
I mean, yeah I guess the gap is smaller. Jakob is a great runner but if anything that race proved Tim can run 3:27 or 3:26.
He almost ran a PR with a 52 second first lap. We might see another world record fall this year.

Barely beat him? So there is a penalty for barely beating someone or a reward for being barely beaten? Kipruto vs Girma SC final 2019 Worlds, that's barely beating someone. All that happened here was Jakob trying to challenge Cheruiyot, Cheruiyot responded, Jakob settled, and Cheruiyot comfortably won the race. Jakob hasn't got the kick required to beat the top guys in a final sprint. He won't out sprint the current 5k guys. He will not out sprint Cheruiyot or a Makhloufi in 1500m. He tried to go early in Worlds 5k and the Ethiopians smoked him. He tried to out kick Cheruiyot today and he got smoked again. 19 or 20 yrs shdnt be an issue. Some pple hv won titles by that age. If he gets a better finish, then he may win some senior titles. Otherwise he will keep running impressive times but lose to someone with a better sprint finish.

He had a potential WR thrown away today by the pacer.

Jakob improved significantly over the last year and the gap is still VERY significant between Tim and him.
Tim ran the worse tactics of his life and still made it look easy.
Tim made 13 seconds disappear overnight (4:50 2k vs 5:03 2k)
Tim will win until he doesn't want to anymore.
What happened here, if you watched the race is that Jakob showed the world that he is clearly one of the two leading 1500 contenders in the world. Timy tried to blow away the field but didn't count on the fact that he is no longer clearly better. Potato man strained and strained all the way to the line. He knows the writing is on the wall. Don't even mention Makhloufi anymore. That was last year with a slower 18 year old Jakob. You gotta be kidding me if you think he is the same runner at this point. Makhloufi can only battle with Wightman and Filip for bronze. That's it. It's all clear as day now. Jakob is now one the all time greats in the 1500. 6th or 7th all time? Not sure since at least doper Kiprop doesnt count.
Those that spewed hatred at Jakob are absolutely stunned. Are crying and kicking. They have all lost control of their bowels.
BRO SHUT UP

Tim's tactics were to trust the pacers, and win the race. It wasn't his fault the pacemakers were so aggressive, and he clearly used the second lap of the race to ensure he had the last-minute reserves to get across the line before the rest of the field. I think he was actually much more tactical than one might think, he probably weighed the pros and cons of maintaining anything close to the suicidal opening pace and decided that he would take his chances with allowing the rest of the field to catch up a little bit, rather than slog on to rigor mortis just before the finish.
That being said, I totally agree that the pacing was not at all optimal, and he is clearly capable of threatening El G's record and becoming the first to touch 3:25.xx. Interesting that we are seeing the longstanding establishment of distance running greats finally lose their records. Kipchoge and Bekele both have had excellent success translating their 5k and 10k ability to the marathon. I would say that even Mo and Galen Rupp, despite many having high expectations of them, translated their performances relatively well to the marathon. Do we think Cheptegei could be the first to go under 2:00 in a legitimate marathon?
Jakob needs to get some top speed or he's never gonna beat Tim until Tim is over the hill
3:28 is fantastic for him. but I watched the race and tim looked ok despite the pacer. similar to when bekele tactically allowed farah to catch up in that half and held on

Not only the best in Europe all time!
Best non African all time, no. 8 in the all time list ! And younger than everyone before him on the list.
Best American on the list is Sydney Maree in no. 30. Centro is 44 and Webb 46.
It should now be clear for everyone that Jakob is still improving. And that he will continue to improve possibly at least until his mid twenties.
