I know the best pros have been successfully microdosing for years now, and I know that without any testing this year, its pretty much a free-for-all, but they don't have as many years of unregulated EPO consumption under their belts as the previous sub 12:40 runners did.
I see no evidence that anyone alive can run under 12:40 yet. Another year or two of covid restrictions leading to a lack of testing, and maybe they'll get there.
Dopers like Bekele, Geb, and Komen weren't BSing when they talked about how hard they worked. Of course they worked hard. That's what all that EPO allowed them to do. Modern guys can't match it just yet with their microdosing techniques.
And as for the original question, I'd be shocked to see a sub 12:50.
I'm guessing a 12:55 winning time. Two other sub 13:00. And a bunch of 13:08-13:12s.
The 5000m record has a lot longer than 5 days left. It's been there 16 years, and all the sudden we have a pandemic, some fast time trials, and Kenny B's records aren't impressive anymore? It sounds great to say you are going for the world record, but that's just to get attention. I think Cheptegei is an insane talent and 12:51 on the road is great, but that's a long way from the record.
I'll say 12:45
I’ll take Cheptegei at 12:44
Next-12:46
3rd-12:52
It’s the new spikes that will push Cheptegei to the new WR. That’s also why Ahmed ran so fast and Houlihan...

Seeing how Kipruto doesn't seem to be coming I give the winner 12:45
There is no way Cheptegai joins the sub-12:40 godhead of Bekele, Geb, and Komen. Bekele's record will stand for at least 100 years. That being said, I hope we see a good fast race.
MY PREDICTION :
CHEPTEGEI 5K : 12:33
GRESSIER 5K : 13:03
WANDERS 5K : 12:54
-------
JAKOB 1500M : 3:28:89
What about the women? But not Hassan!
That's cool.

Wanders : 13:20
Wanders has just run a 1500 in 3.43. That doesnt not indicate great shape. Gressier did 3.37 two weeks ago in a small meet.

OOh look everyone, a doping expert. You don't expect that here.

12:57.8, but only sub 13 because of a super fast last 1k. They'll be on about 13:10 pace @4k.

I am not sure what she wore but they were not new superspikes, they were old ones. See the Letsrun interview where she said she was offered the Dragonfly or whatever but preferred her old spikes and didn’t want people to question her performance based on shoes.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
