Seriously, is it possible that Bekele could run 3 consecutive miles averaging under 4 minutes a mile? I know he will never run a 3 mile race, but I wonder what time a 5k would translate to that. If he runs a 5k around 12:31 (which would be about a 4:01 mile pace), the slightly shorter distance of a 3 mile might allow him to get under 12 minutes.
Yes...definitely do-able....much more likely than preposterous notions of a sub 2 hour marathon that people have been talking about!
No way he could ever do that. 12:00 for 3 miles is 12:25.64 pace for 5000m. Even allowing for the fact that he could run a slightly faster pace for the shorter 3 mile distance, he'd have to be able to cover 5000m in under 12:30, and I just don't see him slicing another 8 seconds off his own world record.

Let's see him bring down Komen's two mile record before we start talking about three miles or how long can he hold sub-4 pace. I think he's likely to break the 2 mile wr if he get's the right incentive and pacing.
Has Bekele even officially run 7:59 yet for 2 miles? That would be a good starting point. I do think he could do it by the way

Bekele's 3000m pr is 7:30 from 4 years ago, equivalent to roughly 8:05 for 2 miles. He's probably capable of faster, but to hold 4:00 pace for three miles, you'd probably have to be able to break 3:50 for one mile and run low 7:50s for 2 miles for a guy with Bekele's endurance.
bekele would have no trouble breaking 3:50 in the mile. he could have medaled in the world championship 1500m with ease.

Like you said, that 3k PR is from 4 years. Bekele has improved incredibly since that time. I would agree running 3 miles under 12m would be outside his realm, but I do think he could break the 2 mile record.
Another question:
If Bekele did break 12 for 3 miles, would this be equally impressive to Komen's 3k? What time for 3miles/5k do you think would be equivalent?
let me remind you he split a 7.32 en route to 12.40 earlier this summer

Good question! I agree that Komen's 3k record is even more impressive than his 2 mile record. I do believe Bekele is capable of breaking the 3k record as well as the 2 mile record.
Yup....A 12min 3 miler is probably equivalent to a 12.30 5k...He's only 7 seconds off! I'm not saying it's going to be easy .... but he is still 23 and has not yet reached his physical peak.

Your dumb. I dont think he would be running the last 200 in 25. It would be more like a 28 maybe a 27.
I dont know if he will be the one to do it. I think he will get close like 12:33. I think the next generations great runner will get it though

Just shut up. I dont even see how you can compare him to 4 years ago when he was 18. Plus he is all about even splits so I dont think he would be trying to run a first mile in 3:50

Please slowly pull your head out of your ass and stop making comments on issues about which you are ignorant. Last time I checked, 3 miles=4828 meters, leaving an additional 172 meters to go from 3 miles to 5000 meters. At 4:00 mile pace, that would take 25.64 seconds. Hence, 12:25.64 for 5000 meters is exactly the same pace as 12:00 for 3 miles.
Wow, you are on fire today. Two ignorant comments in a row. I didn't say that he would attempt to break 12:00 by running his first mile in 3:50. I said that he would have to be capable of running one mile in sub 3:50 to be able to do three of them back to back to back at sub 4:00. And he would have to be capable of running low 7:50s for two miles to run 3 miles under 12:00. Obviously, in a three mile race, he would try to run as close to 4:00 and as evenly paced as possible.
