My usual answers to "best athlete of all time" are Jim Thorpe and Babe Didrikson.
You may have better answers, but it's really tough to argue against either one of these.

I'll have to go with more modern times and say Ashton Eaton. Olympic and World Championship accolades combining speed, power, technique and endurance over a menu of disciplines testing combinations of each. Sure, maybe other athletes excel at other sports but for athletic purity sake, only the current world record bolder would probably disagree. Until the Michael Jordans of the world step into that arena, it's only conjecture.
My wife blurted out Kaitlyn Jenner for the female athlete. She doesn't give two ? laden turds about sports.
Cracked me up!
In my opinion yes he is. I laugh when people suggest babe ruth in this discussion

My problem with Eaton is how many people in the world are devoting their life to be a pro decathlete vs. pro BASKETBALL PLAYER. The ratio is probably 10,000:1
Your wife is smart. Your second reply beat my reply. Cat is clearly the goat and doe.

Yes, there could be better potential decathletes dedicating themselves to other sports, locked up in prison, operating on patients in a hospital etc... but they aren't as good at demonstrating speed, power and endurance over 10 pure disciplines as Eaton. Until they step into that arena. How do you compare quantitatively basketball to track and field or any other sport.
Such is comparing apples to oranges. I'm sure Eaton couldn't beat Michael one on one but the skill set is different.
Noops. You guessed only his first name correctly
The "best athlete of all times" is another Michael also from the USA.

Basketball is an extremely niche sport globally, especially compared to track. There are far less people playing basketball than getting involved in track.
Once you start doing track, coaches would make you a decathlete if you show promise in it. So in a way, every track athlete could have ended up being a decathlete, but very few people do because it's a challenging event. Most are big fat throwers or tiny wimpy distance runners.
Across the world, the 3 most popular sports (in no particular order) are track, soccer, and cricket. I wouldn't put Michael Jordan in the top 100 athletes of all time.
Nope, it's Bo Jackson.
Best athlete of all time , no question it would be a soccer player , and the best athlete in his prime Ronaldo.
There is a retro TV channel , that had a series call Battle of the AllStars . People from different sports , doing running , strength , agility competitions . The worst was the PGA golfer , the second worst all the NBA players . the B league soccer player ruined the show by winning everything easily . Specially when he beat the NFL running backs at sprints and the half mile run.
Jordan is the best. No one close to his athleticism and dominance. He was unstoppable for years against some of the world's best athletes in a highly athletic and highly skilled game.
his athleticism is matched by some high school kids so maybe not. ballplayers are in no way 'tHe GrEaTeSt aThLeTeS'. ATHLETES are the greatest athletes

oooooohhhhh conservatives....always so good with the jokes.
Bo Jackson and Babe Dirdrickson. This is discussed ad naseum and it’s always Bo and Babe at the top. A close third would be Matt London. He just needs to get his hand timed 10 yard dash down .005 seconds

Ummm....ever heard of this guy?
https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/ruth-babeClose one between Jordan and Walmsley. Big Jim is probably just ahead but Jordan can still come back.
