How does one incorporate a weekly, casual, pick-up game of soccer into their training routine? Let's say in the game you traverse roughly 8-10km, with lots of short bursts, but also lots of walking and jogging as well. I'm more spent after soccer than my typical 12km easy run for sure. During base phase should soccer be my only workout besides the long run? During the sharpening phases, how should I incorporate the game. The pick-up game is my weekly highlight, so ditching it is out of the question.
Mostly I'm in base phase now, but targeting 5km - 10km. Typically run 60 mpw including what I traverse in the soccer game as milage.
