Recently my slow recovery runs have been a bit weird (and horrible): they have been extra slow, feel really hard, but my heart rate really struggles to get anywhere near my easy pace heart rate should. Usually, an easy run for me is around 130BPM and 4:30 min/km, but these bad easy runs sit at 110-115BPM and 5:00 min/km, despite me putting in some effort to get them moving.
Has anyone had this before? It's the opposite heart rate response to stereotypical overtraining. These bad slow runs happen only once every week or so, and usually after some hard workouts or long runs. They also don't correlate with an extra high or low resting heart rate. I have an inkling that this could be a fueling problem, but I'm not sure.
Background on me: I'm a sub 1.08-1.10 half guy trying who has recently (last 4 months) begun to do high mileage (100 miles/week). I've found the transition hard because I suspect I'm a faster-twitch type of guy, and the higher high-mileage weeks really take a toll on me.
Any thoughts or experiences are welcome!
