Hey everybody-
I'm a rising senior.
PR's (adjusted by +/-5sec for anon.) and respective mileage and history:
Freshman: Played soccer and hockey, took up most of my time- joined cross country the day before it started. Ran 12:10 on our two mile time trial (somewhat challenging course) and made the #7 spot on varsity. Broke foot playing soccer and was out entire cross season. Didn't run track because I did soccer.
Sophomore: Ran with my friends at practice- had a good time, but didn't run with varsity. ~20-25mpw (probably less, I'm not sure) 17:45 5k. Didn't run track because of soccer.
Junior: Was really motivated by my previous pr and wanted to get better. During summer did a good amount of quality work but not a whole lot of volume. ~30-35mpw (tops at around 40?). In season, averaged about 30 with a high of 37mpw. 16:20 at our state 5k course. Didn't run track because of coronavirus.
Senior: My goal is to ultimately reach 65 mpw by mid August. This is essentially doubling my previous mileage (I'll be hitting 50 this week). This time around, I'm much more respectful of my body in terms of nutrition, sleep, injury prevention and stretching.
It should be noted that I'm fairly certain I'm a relatively slow-twitch strength runner--time will tell whether or not this is true. I've played soccer for most of my life and continue to play competitively.
What can I be doing to reach my utmost potential? I'm trying to get all the low-hanging fruit and I feel I've got a ways to go before I hit a wall. Also, if anyone has ever had similar pr's and/or experiences I'd love to hear them. Thanks and looking forward to your responses.
