Why there are some extraordinary talents who can run very good times with minimal training while there are bad asses who do a ton of training to run super slow times?
These genetic freaks, are destined to shine their light on world-class podium. And i, can only barely break sub15:00 after years of hard work.
We have witnessed the rise of superstars just like cartoon legends from nothing to the one who runs sub13 5k receiving great admirations.
What genetic lottery do they take to share this luckiness of entering sub13 5000m field?
Sometimes, i feel world is unfair and want to give up running, do anyone share the same feeling?
Good times without much training is just one variable. There are many cases of such talents who destroy age-graded records from age 6-17 but never make it to the Olympics or world finals. I know people who started with like a 15:40 5k on almost no training, but never got faster than 14:15. I also know some who started at 19:00 and made it to the Olympics with 13:30.
Running is actually one of the sports were talent doesn't matter that much. Even on low/average talent, you still ran sub 15. You would never make it in the NBA, or NFL, unless you are a real genetic freak. You would never make it to a D1 volleyball or other "skill sport" team, no matter how much you would try and train. Some people made D1 XC purely on working incredibly hard in HS and training more than others.
But running allowed you, even at a starting level of 20 min 5k, or 25 min 5k, or unable to run 5k without stopping, to run sub 15 which is probably 0.01% of entire population in USA or something. So think about that, before you think that running is all about talent, when there is sports where it's way more important even.
