How about Victor Gras? And Bob Hodge was from Lowell (MA) as I recall.

One more. This is dating me, but how about Keith Whitaker from the class of 73? I think he ran 4:12 (2:15/1:57) on the old cinder track at White Stadium. Went to Nebraska and got to 4:04.

And I am amiss in not bringing up Bob Sevene (WHS class of 61 I think) who got to 4:01 I believe post college. Worked out with some guy Ryun at the time I think.

As a native Masshole who’s lived in many states and regions, there is something special about the running culture of Boston. IMO, the last few years New Balance has done a lot for that culture but also overstepped. Boston is one place where you’re “cool” if you’re fast enough to qualify for Boston or at least plan to and run other road and track races but the line is thin and you get a lot of superficial Tracksmith dudes that OG type runners like Boston Billy would smirk at.
