Definitely over 35 there should be no problem with hard training, healthy diet and the right supplements. I played college football in the late 70s/early 80s and then did about 15 yrs of bodybuilding & powerlifting before switching to triathlon. I had no problem building muscle without any T or roids in my 30s & 40s.
However, after 55 things change with most men and no matter what kind of diet or weight routine is done, it becomes increasingly difficult to increase muscle mass and have the gains that were made when younger. That's why Low-T centers are cropping up all over the country - many guys are going for TRT and one's with the dough are going for the premium growth hormone. I'm 60 and trying to go as natural as I can with diet, supplements and all that, but seeing some old cats on TRT at the gym over the years is pretty intriguing:
depends whether you were already near your potential. If you start from an untrained state, of course you can.
Is T going to be that much lower 35-45?
Or is it because the lifestyle of the average 35-45 is not at all conducive to keep T levels high?
If you didn't drink, no smoke, sleep well, workout, good mentality, women... would it drop much?
Absolutely. I hit the weights hard after a bad injury and really muscled up. I've always been fit, but I don't have that bird chest skinny build that some runners have.
Here's the thing with runners that start to lift, you see results FAST. Most people are fat and they don't see the results because they really need to lose weight. A runner is already thin, so any "pump" shows in weeks, or days.
It's probably my favorite thing about lifting is the immediacy of the results compared to running where aerobic fitness takes months and months to see real results.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
