Hi, I turned 15 a week ago (so year 10 in UK, freshman for US) and I have never had a proper track season. Last season I had a few school meets (school track isn't a big thing in the UK and is done more through a club) and mainly ran 800. My times were:
800: 2.10.6 (ran 6 times) - ranked 150th nationally
300: 40.0 (ran 2 times) - school record and ranked 160th nationally
200: 25.6 (ran 1 time)
Going into this year of athletics I've been training quite a lot. I joined a club and originally did a distance group but have since moved down to a sprinting group to focus on 400.
In recent years I developed natural speed and endurance (easily fastest in my year at 100m and in hockey matches and 2nd in my year for xc) and so 800 and 400 seemed like the obvious events. This season ive run a few grass time trials and ran a 12.2 100 and 24.4 200. I'd describe myself as lean but muscular and I have a body fat of 9%.
Could anyone give me advice on whether to focus on 400 or 800? My club has 2 separate groups for sprints and distance so it would be hard not to specialise in either event. I'm mor inclined towards 400 (enjoy sprinting, I prefer the physique etc.) but I dont know whether this would be my best bet.
For reference, I would predict that this season (if I had one), I would run:
100: sub 12?
200: sub 24
400: 54.0
800: 2.07
Thanks!
