Legit or not? This guy is a world class triathlete and claims to have focused 6 months on running. With that form I don't see how he would manage that fast in the road solo.

I could believe it. It looks like he almost moved into Bronze from 5th with the fastest run leg in Rio. 30:34 10k on the end of an Olympic tri.

I don't think his form is that bad. There's something funny going on in the left hand making circles but there's a lot of power and stride length coming from his hips.
Bear in mind this is filmed by a cyclist(?) so he's getting to draft and reduce wind resistance all the way. The great thing about running on tarmac is lots of energy return.
13:37 solo on a whim? Imagine if he was even half interested in running. Jakob Ingebrigtsen has been training since 9 to only run 9s faster? Why even try?
no.
Just measured the course on Google Earth Pro from where he’s seen starting and stopping his watch in the video and it appears that his 13:54 elapsed time on Strava is probably legit but the 13:37 best estimated effort is not.
Maybe he said “1337” and someone thought he was stating a time?

Right, plus, measuring exactly 5000 meters on a watch is not the same as a race, where everyone runs further than the rail distance.

No Jakob could run 13:15 or faster on a road course if he wanted to.
The run Jakob and Henrik did this week was a shake out. They went through 2.5km in 7 minutes and then picked it up to run at 12:55-13:00 pace.
Jakob ran 13:02 with a 53 last lap on the track last year. He could break 13:00. This triathlete would unlikely be significantly faster on the track, maybe 13:25-13:30.
No way in hell.
He looks like he just jogged a 2:06 opening 800m, come on. I've seen Bekele run a 2:37 final 1km and this guy is not it - either the course is 100% downhill or this is a complete joke.
Ha just looked at his Strava. As the video states, he went through 800m in 2:06, yet his first mile was 4:28? So you're telling me he went from 4:10/mile pace to 4:44/mile pace? Right. And then he corrected to 4:27/mile pace?
Sorry, I will believe his 13:54 and not his GPS time of 13:37, because I never believe that time either. Every time I race on the road, Strava will give me a faster time than my finishing time.
That being said, 13:54 is pretty legit, he's fit.
Murray is only top ten for the highest level of triathlon regarding run splits. About 9 others outrun him regularly and can run as fast outside triathlon
Luis
Iden
Schoeman
Alarza
Yee
Blummenfelt
Mola
Jonny
Ali
Gomez
Stornes
McElroy
Birtwhistle
These guys are pros. whatta expect. 13:30 - 14:00 is not difficult for these guys..
There have been triathletes to run around those times. For example Alex Yee running 27:51 for 10000 and 13:30 at a diamond league 5000 and Alistair Brownlee ran 28:32 for 10000.
What type of shape do you think that Iden is in?
He also looks like he is in 13:3X shape
BTW: they make 6 min @ 400W+ look easy, but it’s not

13:54 for a "GPS 5k" is going to be 14 low for a certified road 5k. The 13:37 "Strava estimated best 5k" is a joke. Nearly all of "Strava estimated bests" are inflated.

You'll get your answer later today. Iden, Blummenfelt and Stornes are scheduled to run a 5k on a certified course in Bergen tonight (local time).
Will there be any coverage?

the distance on gps was 5.08 (he passed 5k in 13:37), which seems more or less what i'd get on my watch on a certified 5k
What about their previous video of a 3000m test (on track), which included are pretty intense warm-up:
45 min bike, 5k run
5x1k in 2:59 to 3:06
3x400 in 64 to 66
3000m time trial in 8:11
Blummenfelt recently posted on Strava that his VO2max was measured to be 94. They used a somewhat dubious new device to measure it though (VO2master) which probably has a large error compared to well-validated laboratory-based metabolic carts, so I wouldn't take that too seriously.
