Can enough tests be processed that quickly?
Can enough tests be processed that quickly?
No
No, its not realistic. The tests aren't accurate enough and by the time you catch a case, its already spread. There is no scenario where large events take place while a pandemic is ongoing. No matter how much you want it a large event that attracts international participation will never be allowed. The only way an event of this magnitude goes off is if a state prioritizes the economy over public safety. There will be protests to shut down the marathon if its allowed to be held. Remember for most, running is just an activity, not a sport. This includes the 3 hour boston qualifiers. A serious hs runner could break 3 hours in a marathon, not that hard.
If we get the spit on the paper tab test....
I work at a level one trauma and education hospital and had the best tests available and my unit was the covid unit. We sometimes had to test people three times to get a positive result. The swabs are not very accurate and sometimes people can have it and still test negative depending where their body is at on fighting the virus.
I don´t think so, what if the half of participants are positive?
No, I don’t see why they would use those thousands of tests on people participating in an elective event.

Of course not. And for what purpose?

So they can hold the race without causing an outbreak, which is presumably why it will be cancelled. Just brainstorming ideas to save the race.
A better option, although full of problems too, would be a test you take before traveling for the race.
Just the traveling and mingling in the city, leading up to your testing scenario, is not good.
Test negative 4 days out, agree to wear a mask for the 4 days leading up, run the race, go home.
I just don't see September happening.

The logistics make it impossible to test. And it's not free.
Secondly all of this testing and social distancing and paranoia and destroying the economy does NOTHING to stop this, or any other virus from spreading. Viruses are part of our natural world, the only thing that has ever been successful is this continual battle is our natural immune system. It's been that way for a million years.

What is with everyone's obsession over-testing. Especially when it comes to sporting events. People have been working in crowded factories, grocery stores, distribution centers, construction sites, etc. for months without testing. The virus is too far spread to control it with testing or even bother with tracing. The US is not at 1.5 million cases. It is somewhere between 20 million to 40 million.
I find the response on here from someone who works at trauma saying sometimes they need to test someone with the virus 3 times to get a positive amusing. Not because I don't think it is 100% true, but because everyone has railed the antibody testing as being terribly inaccurate while the PCR testing isn't any better.
The hysteria is built on initial BS fed down our throats with shoddy numbers and data interpreted by talking heads who either didn't understand what they were looking at or had an agenda. Everyone needs to just accept they're probably getting this, if they haven't already, and get back to their lives.
Trump said yes, but only if they actually want to be tested.
The state should force all out of staters to quarantine for at least 14 days upon arrival like Hawaii and little rhody
